Series Summary

Star Trek follows the adventures of the starship USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) and its crew, led by Captain James T. Kirk, first officer Mr. Spock, Montgomery Scott also known as "Scotty", and chief medical officer Leonard McCoy, in the 23rd century.  Shatner's voice-over introduction during each episode's opening credits stated the starship's purpose:  

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise.  Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
